Tochal – Tehran
The southern slope of Alborz, which is known as Tochal, is the central rendezvous of Tehran’s climbers and athletes. In this complex, the most famous and most crowded resort shelters are located on these slopes. From the East to the West, these slopes are Kolak Chal, Shervin, Shirapala, Tochal, Speed Kamar, and Palang Chal, all of which overlook Tehran.
This summit is located next to a lake, which is why it is called “Tochal”. Tochal means a pond or a small lake. The beginning of Tochal resort area starts and the end of Velenjack Street. Of course, this place is called “the roof of Tehran” by many Tehranian people.
Facilities of Tochal Tehran
In recent years, excellent facilities have been added to the Roof of Tehran complex. Among these facilities are new restaurants, Zipline, the sledge of Tehran, electric midibuses to deliver visitors to the top part.
If you come to Tochal for sport and plan to climb, it is better to walk to the main entrance of the pedestrian walkway, and if you visit Tochal for fun or do not feel hiking the uphill, some midibuses bring you to the main area.
If you plan to go skiing, and do not own any skiing equipment, you can rent ski equipment at the first station of the cable car. You can hire a complete Alpine ski package including shoes, batons, ski and snowboarding. Of course, you will be asked you for a valid identification card.
Other than that, there are other facilities, such as archery, paintball, tennis courts, and a 40-meter high bungee jumping available at the first station.
If you are planning to stay at the Resort Hotel, at the first station, you will need to fill in a form and pay for your stay along with delivering an ID card.
Tochal Resort has three main cable car lines, three lines of a chairlift, and a tele-ski line. The total length of the cable car’s longitudinal lines is about 7,500 meters, one of the most extended and continuous cable car lines in the world. The capacity of the cable car is 600 people per hour.
Climbing to the fifth station is a bit difficult for those who come to the mountain once a year, but the cable car makes it possible to reach a snowy area in less than half an hour and watch the metropolis of Tehran from above. From this height, watching the Milad Tower, which is the tallest tower in Tehran, is spectacular. The fifth station is the summer residence of the Resort Cultural Center.
If you do not plan to ski, stay at the fifth station, because the facilities of the fifth station do not differ from the seventh station for ordinary people who are after a beautiful day.
To get to the seventh station, you have to get off the cab at the fifth station and take a ride at another line. After about an hour (from the first station) and 7,500 meters, you will reach the Seventh Station or the International Ski Resort.
Because of the high altitude at this station, the weather is so cold that if you do not have proper clothes, you will freeze! The cold is not even comparable to the fifth station.
