Izeh – Khuzestan
Izeh Khuzestan is a city mostly resided by Bakhtiaris in Khuzestan province of Iran with a rich ancient history. This city also gained recognition after Islam, and since the time of Atabakan, it has been the centre and capital of the Bakhtiari sovereignty.
The History of Izeh Khuzestan
Izeh has had a variety of names from the past to this day. These titles are Izaj, Izeh, Mal Amir.
In the majority of Islamic sources, Izeh is referred to as Izaj. In the inscriptions of the Soleiman, which dates back to the era of Elamite, the city of Izeh is called, Apapir or Ajapir. In the Achaemenid period, the city also remained a survivor of the Elamites and was called the Elimati.
Attractions of Izeh Khuzestan
The ancient history of the city of Izeh has caused the existence of multiple historical monuments in the town one of which is the emblem of the ancient Elamite. The theme of this emblem is giving of one of the kings.
Another one of the famous historical works in the city of Izeh is the relief of Azhdar that is also known as Nowruz.
The relief of Azhdar is one of the ancient monuments of Khuzestan Province, located 15 km from Izeh in the Nowruz tribe area, east of the village of Azhdar village. It has two relief features, one belonging to the era of the Elamites, and another to the time of the Parthians. Unfortunately, the relief of Elamy has mostly disappeared, but it is clear that its subject matter is the presence of the king.
From the New Eilami era also remains the “Kool Farah” rock inscription, located at about 7 kilometres northeast of Izeh. There are relief cuneiform inscriptions in this place, featuring information about parties and religious ceremonies.
Eshkaft Soleiman in the southwest of Izeh has four distinct reliefs that belong to royal families.
Other spectacular monuments of the city are the bridge of Izaj, which is composed of mortar and Sarooj and is built on a dry river bed. The lush green plain of Susan is also one of the other attractions of the city of Izeh.
There is a fire temple in the city of Izeh, which dates back to the Sassanid period and has been glorious up to the Abbasids, and receives many tourist visits. The town of Izeh has many Bakhtiari people residing in it and is the centre of the Bakhtiari sovereignty.
Additionally, the city of Izeh has many particular tourist areas, such as the Golzar recreational area, the Zarras recreation area, the White Mountain Resort, the Karun III Dam, and the Oak Forest Park.
Best time to visit Izeh Khuzestan
Izeh Khuzestan is one of the coolest cities in the province of Khuzestan and is located in the middle of the Zagros Mountains with a pleasant and moderate climate. Travelling there from early March to May is one of the best possible options. The lush nature of Izeh Khuzestan will surprise you. After November to Norouz, is also an excellent time to visit.
Access to Izeh Khuzestan
The beautiful city of Izeh Khuzestan is not equipped with an airport or a railway station. To get to Izeh, you should use a personal car or public transport via passenger terminals. The route from Ahvaz to Izeh is 181 kilometres according to google maps, and it takes about two and a half hours.
