Shalmash Falls – Sardasht – Western Azerbaijan
Shalmash waterfall is one of the most attracting cascades in the province of West Azarbaijan and the city of Sardasht. Shalmash waterfall and a lush valley along with scattered forest is located near the town of Sardasht, and it is as one of the branches of small Zab river.

This cascade, which consists of three cascades, is now a recreational area that welcomes thousands of people from other regions, especially in warm seasons. Three cascades are arranged in succession, the first of them is located near the parking lot. To see the next two cascades, you must walk a relatively large distance and enter a rather deep valley. Nowadays it is easier and less risky to visit the waterfalls thanks to the stairs and fences up and down the valley.

This area is a Kurdish region and in the Kurdish language, “Shalmash” means a huge boulder that seems to be the result of the altitude of this waterfall and the rocky texture of the area.

This waterfall located in a valley is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in West Azarbaijan province. Shalmash is a three-story cascade that lies in tandem. Each cascade has different heights and the flowing waters of the first cascade spill over into the next waterfalls.
If you follow the steps leading down the valley you will get so close that you can see the waterfalls from the nearest distance, and even drops of water fall on you, but you should refrain from relying on the fences.
Passing through the parkway to the waterfalls, you will take a hike between oak, plantain, pomegranate and walnut trees, and the excellent weather of the area and passing through the shade of trees will make you feel refreshed.
Close to the waterfall, there is a small recreational complex built that has a car park and a restaurant. During the holidays, there are some divers present at the complex. We recommend taking the banned swimming signs seriously and be satisfied with watching the spectacular view of the water droplets coming to you. Although, when you make a glance at the size of the flowing water, you find yourself refusing to swing automatically.

The Shalmash waterfalls are considered as the branch of the Small Zab river and are in its most abundant state during the spring. But the beginning of the spring is still cold, but from May to mid-fall, it can be an excellent time to travel to the area.
How to visit Shalmash falls Sardasht western Azerbaijan
The distance from Tehran to Sardasht is about 10 hours and from Orumieh to Sardasht is about 4 hours. Shalmash waterfall is located 15 km south of Sardasht. Take Sardasht to arrive at the village of Maraghan and the village of Shalmash. This road is asphalt and safe and has a beautiful view.
You will see the Shalmash Waterfall Promenade sign before reaching the village of Shalmash. The distance you have in advance will take 20 minutes.
